In the summer of 2010 in Arizona, the HSUS hosted a campaign to defeat Prop 109, which would take away voters' rights with regard to animal management and advocacy ~ first with wildlife, and then with our own pets and veterinarians.  Kari Nienstedt helped spearhead the campaign, along with many others, and due in large part to her coordination of all these efforts, Prop 109 was defeated.

Kari has long been an inspiration to me as head of the Council ~ I founded my Animal Ministry Institute several years ago following her lead to inspire others.  She is a caring person who takes her work seriously, but always makes time for a smile and chuckle ~ sometimes at her own expense.  Her expertise at keeping everyone informed of even the smallest, but important details about HSUS initiatives is one of the reasons she is so good at what she does, and I have to say she probably inspires countless others as well.

This past fall the Council awarded Kari our "Beacon of Light" award at the annual ThanksLiving 2010 event in Scottsdale, Arizona at Green Restaurant.  The Council is honored and proud to know Kari and is impressed with her work, not just for the HSUS, but with each and every person she comes into contact with.  Not only is she gracious, she also has the strength and compassion to work with any different factions to accomplish HSUS goals.

Please join the Council in applauding Kari for her work with the HSUS, and for all her future endeavors on behalf of our partners in the animal kingdom!  If you would like more information on the goals of the HSUS in Arizona, please send Kari an e-mail to be added to the HSUS e-mail updates ~ knienstedt@humanesociety.org.  If you would like more information on the goals of the HSUS across the country, please contact them through the official HSUS website.
